Steel, concrete are next at Beacon Granger

Site preparation, excavation and earthwork are complete at the site of the future Beacon Granger Hospital. In the next couple of weeks, the mechanical, electrical and plumbing components will be put into place and the concrete slab poured.

Then, the structural steel, or bones of the hospital, will begin rising from the ground as the building takes shape on the northwest corner of Capital Avenue and Beacon Parkway.

Diane Maas, Beacon’s chief strategy director, says lots of operational planning continues to take place behind-the-scenes. These discussions will determine everything from patient access and patient flow in the new building to what equipment will be purchased and how the new hospital will be staffed.

Construction began this past summer on the 32,800-square-foot hospital, which will be located on about nine acres off the Indiana Toll Road’s Mishawaka exit, across from Beacon Health & Fitness. The smaller footprint, one-story hospital will contain a full emergency department with 11 beds and sophisticated imaging and diagnostic equipment, as well as eight in-patient beds.

Beacon Granger is expected to open next summer.

Ground was broken in LaPorte late last week on a similar smaller footprint hospital that will be constructed at the current Beacon Medical Group building. The LaPorte project is expected to be completed in early 2020.
