Angels here on Earth
On March 16, 2014 I was involved in an accident. I was hit head on by a drunk driver, and life as I had known it, has been changed forever. Some would say what an awful thing happened, and while this was not at all what I would of chosen to be doing for the past 46 days and many days yet to come, I am alive and very thankful. I will walk again.
I have been very blessed to be in the amazing care of such an awesome group of caregivers at Memorial Hospital. From the moment I was cut from my car and brought into the emergency room, through both my surgeries and post trauma care, I have received nothing but superior care.
I have had some down days. I am not always 100 percent positive and on one particular day my nurse Amanda Roelofs came in, shut my door and sat and just let me cry and get it out of my system … she is a rare gem to me and an amazing woman. I also have a few patient-care assistants who have gone above and beyond as well and treat me as family more than a patient. This makes my heart smile.
A special thank you must go out to Chintan Patel, R.N., as without him and his amazing personality and care for his job, none of this would be possible. He came in just to say, “Hello.” I remarked about his shirt he had on and after telling me he designed it, I stated I wanted one! I feel like a member of staff as I had been here so long!
I owe a big thank you to the amazing doctors and surgeons who took such great care of me and fixed all my broken bones so that I am able to walk again … Drs. Akre and Mamczak are both amazingly skilled surgeons and I am thankful I was in their hands. I have had a great recovery process due in part to my desire to work hard and help myself get walking again, but also due to the amazing therapy staff: Maciej, Mark, Joanne and Christine! They have given me the tools and techniques to further my recovery process to its fullest.
Bottom line, Memorial Hospital and its staff are my angels here on earth. They are a true example of what a team is all about.
