Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Scan/CT Scan

CT scans show images of solid structures in your body, like bones, organs and blood vessels. They combine X-ray technology with a computer to create cross-sectional images.

PET/CT scans use a scanner and a tracer (radioactive substance) to help your doctor see how your organs are functioning. They may be used to measure things like blood flow, oxygen use and how your body uses sugar. PET/CT is often used in the care of cancer patients to help stage newly found cancers or to follow up after cancer patients have undergone treatments.
