Memorial Hospital receives fourth consecutive ‘A’ rating for patient safety
Memorial Hospital of South Bend has been awarded an A rating for quality and safety measures from the Leapfrog Group. This is the fourth consecutive year Memorial Hospital has received the top letter grade from the Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization.
The Leapfrog Group issues letter grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice a year based on a hospital’s performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care. The 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade used 28 measures of hospital safety data to assign grades to the hospitals.
“This top grade reflects our long-standing commitment to patient safety and clinical excellence. There is nothing more important to us than the health and safety of our patients,” said Larry Tracy, president of Memorial Hospital, which is part of Beacon Health System.
To be recognized nationally as an ‘A’ hospital is an accomplishment the whole community should take pride in, said Leah Binder, the Leapfrog Group president and CEO. “Hospitals that earn an A grade are making it a priority to protect patients from preventable medical harm and error,” Binder said. “We congratulate hospital leaders, board members, staff, volunteers and clinicians who work so hard to earn this A.”
