Eye on Health: Beacon dermatologic surgeon removes skin cancer with little scarring
Sheila Annable regrets her sunbathing from years ago but says she’s extremely fortunate to have Dr. Luiz Pantalena as her doctor now.
Together they keep a close eye on her basal cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer, and Dr. Pantalena has removed it multiple times with Mohs surgery, a procedure designed to reduce scarring in high-visibility areas such as the face.
Dr. Pantalena, a Beacon Medical Group dermatologic surgeon, is the only physician in St. Joseph, Elkhart and Marshall counties who is a board-certified fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery. Annable is grateful for his training and experience.
“I was just amazed at how easy it was, how it turned out … and the fact that I didn’t have a huge, ugly scar,” Annable said.
