Heart attack, congestive heart failure, open-heart surgery, a pacemaker: in 70 years it was my first time in the hospital. The doctors at Memorial Hospital repaired my body and brought me back from the brink of death. They are truly superb. But it was the expertise, concern, attentiveness and loving care of the nurses and patient care assistants in both ICU and the cardiac floor who renewed both my strength and my spirit, making me want to live again. Thank you and God bless you, my angels! I love you all.

On May 21, 2015 around 8:30 a.m., I was admitted to Elkhart General with symptoms of a heart attack and it was quickly determined that I was, in fact, in coronary distress and was immediately scheduled for emergency open heart surgery where I ended up having triple bypass surgery. I didn’t realize how serious my situation was until later that day following the surgery – I understand that my life was spared due to the quick response from the entire surgical staff.

My entire experience at EGH, though physically & emotionally traumatic, was extremely positive and very professional. I was treated with great respect, kindness, gentleness and with great care and concern. EGH should be extremely proud of the fantastic people it employs – it is no surprise that EGH’s cardiac units and overall care are so highly rated!

Thank you from the bottom of my “new” heart, for providing such great care to me during a difficult moment in my life. I have been quick to “sing your praises” to my family and friends. I am proud to have such a great hospital in our community.
