More Than Satisfied

Recent patient satisfaction scores show that patients love Elkhart General Hospital! Based on patient satisfaction data from July to September, Elkhart General is among the highest-performing hospitals in the country.

The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) Survey collects and compares patient satisfaction data from hospitals across the country, including Elkhart General.

Four areas in particular on the survey – how a patient rates a hospital, patients recommending Elkhart General, communication with nurses and communication with doctors – jumped considerably from the second quarter to third quarter.

There are many initiatives responsible for generating a more pleasing patient experience. A popular one, launched in 2013, is relationship-based nursing care.

“Our nursing teams have worked hard this year to see the patients as a person, to connect with them, learn their backstory and find out what is most important to them as they are cared for,” says Karra Heggen, MSN, BSN, RN, Vice President of Nursing at Elkhart General.
