Getting to Know Elkhart General Hospital

The staff of Elkhart General recently opened their doors to educators, counselors and other professionals wanting to learn about the workings of a hospital and the career opportunities in the health care field.

Elkhart General joined with the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the Center for Excellence in Leadership of Learning at the University of Indianapolis, the Regional Works Councils and other area employers for a daylong event called “Postsecondary Pathways: Careers for Student Success.” The event was coordinated by the Horizon Education Alliance and sponsored by the Indiana Youth Institute.

Participants were given a tour of Elkhart General, including the Emergency Department, the Post-Surgical Care Unit and the Total Value Management strategy room. This first-hand experience for the guests provided a greater appreciation for the level of coordination and complexity inherent in the delivery of health care. As interested as the guests were in learning about the hospital, Elkhart General associates were equally excited in sharing information about what they do and how their work contributes to the betterment of the community.
