Reinventing the Dining Experience

Renovation is wrapping up on Memorial Hospital’s cafeteria, creating a far more attractive, functional and user-friendly space. The renovation, which began in October 2015, made things hectic from time to time for cafeteria associates, but the vast improvement in the design, equipment and overall feel has made the project a worthwhile investment.

“Our associates find it a pleasant place to work, with more reliable equipment and improved workspace and it’s easier to maintain,” says Director of Nutritional Services Fredrick Girard. “Reaction from customers is overwhelmingly positive. We are glad to be able to use the improved facility to provide expanded options and create a more high-quality experience.”

Improvements include the following that are complete or nearing completion:

-Relieved congestion at peak periods by relocating the entrance and exit; moving the salad bar, soup and pizza station and grab-and-go service area

-Increased floor space allowing for greater variety of food offered, including enlarging the salad bar by 60 percent

-Replaced worn and dated fixtures and finishes, including flooring, walls, ceilings and furniture

-Enhanced comfort and convenience with modern touches, including touch-screen beverage dispensers, artwork, lighting, fireplace and 24/7 seating

-More convenient through wider aisles, the addition of a central condiment island, digital menu boards, USB power availability, ice and water station and heated sandwich slide

-Step-wise introduction of additional menu items at all food stations to take advantage of the more capable equipment and fixtures
