Roundabouts Open for Business

For those who work on or around Memorial Hospital’s campus, there was a beautiful sight on Sept. 8: the official opening of the Bartlett/Michigan Street and Marion/Michigan Street roundabouts. After several months of major roadwork around the campus, Beacon associates felt a sense of relief and excitement at the opening.

However, some of the two-way traffic conversions in downtown will happen later in the fall. Until then, here is how the traffic will run with the roundabouts in place:

• Michigan will be two-way from the Marion/Michigan roundabout to the north. South of the Marion/Michigan roundabout will be one-way northbound on Michigan and one-way southbound on Main.
• After the Marion/Michigan roundabout is open to traffic, the eastbound lane of Marion will be closed for approximately one week to complete drive pavement, curbs, sidewalks and ambulance garage approaches. Ambulances will be able to enter and exit the garage.

Also, there will also be more sidewalk, landscaping, irrigation, lighting and other work along Michigan Street from LaSalle to Park Lane and from LaSalle to Marion Street on Main Street.
