Inpatient psychiatric care division of Memorial Hospital
Memorial Epworth Center and Epworth Hospital make up the inpatient psychiatric care division of Memorial Hospital. We provide care for adolescents (ages 13 to 17) and adults age 18 and older. Our care, directed by board-certified psychiatrists, includes the diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia and others. We also provide care for older adult-related conditions, including dementia.
At Memorial Epworth Center and Epworth Hospital, our treatment team works closely with patients, their families and medical care providers to develop every patient’s full potential.
Please park in front of our facility at 420 N. Niles Ave. on either side of the street, or in the lot on the east side of the building. Please check in at the Admissions desk.
We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including holidays. If you are experiencing a crisis, please call our Admissions Office at 574.647.8400.

First, an admission representative will meet with you and your support person(s) to learn about your symptoms and needs. Then, the admission representative will review your information with our on-call psychiatrist and determine which level of care best fits your needs. If you do not need inpatient treatment we will provide you with information on appropriate service options in the area.

Yes, we recognize how vital family and friends are in the healing process and encourage visits and phone calls. Designated times for phone calls and visitation will be provided upon admission to the hospital. For privacy reasons, callers and visitors will need to have your patient ID number in order to contact or visit you. Visitation outside of designated hours must be approved by your social worker and/or nurse prior to your proposed visit.
Patients can have two visitors at any one time, each of which must be 16 years old or older. Each unit has designated visitation hours.
We are a smoke-free campus. Your doctor can discuss management options with you during your stay.
No, our rooms are semi-private.
Yes, our staff washes patients’ clothing as needed.
Your length of stay is based on your treatment needs and goals that are identified between you and your treatment team. The average length of stay is six days.
