Acute care

We provide around-the-clock rehabilitation care for patients who have severe injuries or paralysis following a traumatic accident or devastating side effects from a stroke or other neurological condition.

Inpatient therapy is available at Elkhart General Hospital and Memorial Hospital of South Bend. Patients in these units receive rehabilitation care day and night. This continues until they’ve regained enough skill and ability to return to their homes.

Does Beacon offer pediatric therapy?

Yes, Beacon offers pediatric therapy. Children have unique needs and body structures that require specialized training and therapy. Our therapists are certified to provide that.

Does Beacon offer water/aquatic therapy?

Yes, Beacon offers aquatic therapy. Water-based therapy is ideal for patients with joint pain as the water provides resistance without putting pressure on joints.

Is Beacon Goshen Outpatient Center a new practice?

We opened our multi-specialty center in 2022. It expands access to urgent care, imaging services, physical therapy and specialized medical care in one convenient location for patients who live or work in the Goshen area. The multi-service facility is located in Dunlap by Lowe's Home Improvement Center and Gateway Commons retail area.

What can I do at home between joint replacement therapy sessions?

After joint replacement, you may see a physical therapist to help you regain your mobility. Your therapist will teach you at-home exercises to do between appointments after hip replacement or knee replacement. These can include strengthening and mobility exercises.

What inpatient rehabilitation programs are available at Three Rivers?

Our inpatient rehab therapists from occupation, physical and speech therapy provide cognitive rehabilitation, mobility training, daily living skills coaching and other therapies. These therapies help patients who've suffered from strokes, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, trauma and other conditions.

What is inpatient therapy?

Inpatient therapy happens in the hospital, during a hospital stay. Patients suffering from a heart attack, stroke, major accident and other urgent conditions receive inpatient therapy.

What is neurological rehabilitation?

A person experiencing a nervous system disorder, disease or injury, will undergo a treatment program focusing on their condition. This could include a stroke, a disease like Parkinson's or Huntington's, a brain or spinal cord injury or cerebral palsy.

What is outpatient therapy?

Outpatient therapy happens out of the hospital. Outpatient therapy is for patients recovering from various conditions and injuries not requiring immediate or urgent treatment.

What kind of therapy is part of cardiac rehabilitation?

Following a heart attack or stroke, or if you have a heart condition, our cardiac rehabilitation program helps reduce your chances of additional problems, can help you lose and manage weight and provides stress management techniques. What limitations may I have after a fracture?

Limitations after a fracture depend on the fracture type. Limitations for hip fractures vary from wrist fractures. Your provider will guide you on the limitations specific to your case and recovery.

Limitations after a joint replacement depend on many factors, including replacement type (knee, hip, etc.), surgery type and setting (inpatient or outpatient). Your surgeon and providers will guide you on the limitations specific to your case and recovery.

What outpatient rehabilitation programs are available at Three Rivers?

We provide outpatient physical, occupational and speech therapies. We perform hand therapy, mobility and ergonomic evaluations, injury and illness therapy, neurological therapy and many other services.We also offer cardiac rehabilitation for patients with heart conditions and stroke, including heart failure, heart valve replacement or repair, peripheral artery disease and other conditions.

Our Three Rivers hospitals and clinics offer a variety of outpatient services, including family medicine, wound healing, rehabilitation, cardiac care, imaging, orthopedics and more.

Urgent care, imaging and physical therapy services are available at Goshen Outpatient Center. You also can see a specialist in Neurosurgery, Ear, Nose and Throat, Cardiology, Gynecology, Sleep, Pain, or Hematology-Oncology at our Goshen location.

What’s the difference between anterior and posterior hip replacement?

Anterior and posterior refer to the location of the incision made to replace a hip. Anterior hip replacement incisions are in the front of the hip while posterior are in the back. Both approaches have similar risks and incision sizes. Your surgeon will discuss the risks and benefits of both approaches with you. Not all surgeons perform anterior hip replacement, and not all patients are candidates for anterior hip replacement.
