MedFlight’s helicopter, a twin-engine Eurocopter EC-145. The larger MedFlight helicopter improves and expands Memorial MedFlight’s patient care capability by increasing the program’s range and service area. The helicopter is equipped with the latest technology in communication and safety capabilities including:
Real-time weather radar
Terrain and Collision Awareness Avoidance System
Night Vision Goggles
IRIS System
Additionally, a spacious cabin accommodates a variety of critical care transport medical equipment and provides head-to-toe patient access. The aircraft is equipped with a full-sized stretcher system compatible with ground ambulances. The aircraft size and lift capabilities will also allow future incorporation of a transport incubator for neonatal patients.
The EC145 C-2 is Instrument Flight Rule (IFR) capable which will enable it to operate in a wider range of weather conditions. The helicopter cruises at speeds over 140 miles per hour with a range of over 300 miles.
