Perianal abscess is usually caused by anal infection or blocked glands. It can result when germs are passed between sexual partners or from a condition such as Crohn's disease or diverticulitis.
Symptoms include anal or buttock pain and swelling, constipation, and fever.
Surgery is the standard treatment for perianal abscess. Antibiotics also may be used in some situations.
