A General Approach to Anemia in Pediatrics

Presented By: Luisanna Sánchez, MD – Pediatric Hematologist, Indiana Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center (IHTC)

Dr. Sánchez is a dedicated Pediatric Hematologist-Oncologist at the Indiana Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center (IHTC), where he combines his extensive training and compassionate approach to provide exceptional care for children with blood disorders. With a strong commitment to improving the health outcomes of his patients, Dr. Sánchez has established himself as a leading figure in the field of pediatric hematology and oncology.

Dr. Sánchez began his journey in medicine at Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. His passion for pediatric medicine led him to the University of Cincinnati, where he completed a rigorous Pediatric Residency at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Following his residency, he pursued specialized training in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology through a fellowship program at the renowned Baylor College of Medicine, specifically at Texas Children’s Cancer & Hematology Center. Dr. Sánchez further honed his research skills by participating in the Clinical Scientist Training Program at Baylor College of Medicine, focusing on clinical investigation to advance the field of pediatric hematology.

Dr. Sánchez is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is board eligible in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology. He holds an Indiana State Medical License, which enables him to provide care and advocate for his patients within the state.

Dr. Sánchez’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in the medical field has earned him several prestigious honors. He was awarded the Jeanne Marie Lusher Diversity Fellowship Award by the National Hemophilia Foundation, recognizing his efforts to promote diversity in hematology. Additionally, he received the Minority Hematology Fellow Award from the American Society of Hematology, highlighting his potential to make significant contributions to the field. In recognition of his leadership and impact on the youth of the Dominican Republic, he was nominated for the National Youth Award by the Ministry of Youth.

Dr. Sánchez is an active member of various professional organizations, which allows him to stay at the forefront of advancements in pediatric hematology and oncology. He is deeply invested in the education and mentorship of the next generation of medical professionals, consistently advocating for the needs of underrepresented communities in healthcare.

With a blend of expertise, compassion, and a commitment to advancing the field of pediatric hematology-oncology, Dr. Sánchez continues to make a profound impact on the lives of his patients and their families.
