The Beacon Physician Wellness Council has launched several new wellbeing initiatives focused on providing support to physicians and APCs to help reduce stress and burnout.
Electronic Health Record
The Electronic Health Record is a frequently cited source of stress and inefficiency for physicians and APCs. In many instances, unawareness of existing functionality can make a big difference in the level of satisfaction with the EHR. Filling those gaps is an excellent strategy to improve efficiency and confidence with this technology.
Whether a formal engagement for additional training or need for efficiency tips and tricks, our educators are just a phone call away. We’re using Cerner’s Lights-On provider behavior analytics platform to proactively identify high-opportunity providers for a more in-depth, one-on-one series of interactions. The team is also developing quick videos and tips-and-tricks documents to help with self-guided, user-enhancement training. To learn more or request assistance, contact Suzanne Hemler at shemler@beaconhealthsystem.org.
Mentorship Program
This program is available to all new providers hired in the previous six months as well as existing providers who would like to voluntarily engage in mentoring to support specific needs. Mentees will be paired with experienced Beacon providers or leaders to help assimilate into their practice, organization and community, professionally and personally. Mentors will ensure a transfer of experience, learnings, perspectives and understanding needed to enhance provider development.
Beacon will provide mentors and mentees with resources to initiate mentoring relationships and, structure and flexibility to support individual needs. The desired outcome is to enhance the long-term happiness, engagement and success in the new provider’s career. To learn more about the program or how to participate contact Lars Kneller, MD at lkneller@beaconhealthsystem.org or Jewel Copenhaver at jcopenhaver@beaconhealthsystem.org.
Peer Support Dinners
Sharing conversation and a meal fosters growth and understanding. For this reason, the Wellness Council sponsors groups of physicians, and groups of APCs, to meet for dinner and engage in constructive conversation about personal provider wellness. There is no agenda or formal presentation; only the time and space to converse and fellowship with colleagues as we strive to help each other be well. Takeaways from these dinners will be used to guide the future of our wellness program.
