A Light to the World
Beacon Health System is proud to honor two amazing community members with the first ever “Live Bright” Awards. These awards are the next incarnation of what was formerly the Spirt of Women Awards, which were awarded to Michiana residents for the last 15 years. The “Live Bright” Awards are open to men and women and feature two categories, one award for patient care and one for community involvement.
Winners are chosen by a 5-person panel, made up of Associates from Elkhart General Hospital, Memorial Hospital, and members of the local media. Each winner receives a crystal award, $250 and another $250 for the charity of their choice.
The 2014 Live Bright Award for Patient Care winner is Doug Gibson. Doug was recognized by the panel as someone who consistently puts his patients and their families at the center of all he does.
Honorable Mentions in this category included: Peggy Catchings, Robert Ercoline, Elise Gettleman, Heather Griffith, Ken Knisliey, Cynthia Lemp, Nan Monhaut, Kristen Ranschaert, Amanda Roelofs, Christine Saboski, Gloria Simon, Lynn Sobecki, Jenny Streeter and Harry Thibault.
The Live Bright Award for Community Involvement was awarded to Lori Whaley. Lori is consistently recognized as a natural leader, who uses her gifts of talent, time or resources to serve as a role model for the rest of us.
Honorable Mentions in this category included: Ruth Brant, Bettye Green, Karl King, G. Larsen Kneller, M.D., Ilona Marshall, Margaret Moss, Leonora Oates de Battani, Lynn Rhody, Rebecca Robbins, Kathleen Seidl, South Bend Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) and Shannon Sullivan.

They will then be introduced by ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” champion Cheryl Burke and awarded their prizes at the 2014 Michiana Women’s Show at 1 p.m. on Center Stage at the Century Center.
