Momentum Builds for Children’s Hospital Expansion
Plans are underway for expanding the Children’s Hospital, the most significant expansion project on Memorial’s campus in recent years. It’s a project that will forever improve the quality of care for sick and injured children throughout Northern Indiana and Southwestern Michigan. To make such a worthy project come to life requires the help of so many dedicated people. Associates from nearly every department have been meeting for the last 6 months with ZGF Architects, a nationally renowned architectural firm, to create a vision for the expansion. A hands-on process from the start, Associates are playing an integral role in the design.
Michaeleen Conlee, executive director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Memorial, is excited about the growing enthusiasm for the expansion. “It’s amazing to see how peoples’ faces light up when we talk about it. There is so much energy surrounding it, unlike anything I’ve ever seen before,” says Conlee. The expansion will move forward when the required goal of $10 million in donations is raised. In the meantime, a fabulous team of Associates is tirelessly working to make the vision a reality.
No one is more thrilled about the forthcoming expansion than Robert White, M.D., long-time Beacon neonatologist.Medical care has changed, hospitals have changed, the expectations and needs of children and their families have changed. We are preparing to respond to those changes and to lead the way to even more improvements with a new Children’s Hospital,” he says. “We have so much momentum and interest from the community for expanding the Children’s Hospital, because it is what we need to do to better help the thousands of children we see every year.”
