Cause for Celebration

Many of our associates, because of their knowledge and expertise, are called upon to speak at events regionally, statewide and nationally. Bri Poorman, BSN, R.N., CMSRN, Post-Surgical Care Unit Shift Coord/Med-Surg RN Educator, recently spoke at the Indiana Hospital Association’s Hospital Engagement Network “Partnership for Patients Regional Road Show.” She was the hospital speaker at the Fort Wayne event, which concentrated on patient and family engagement and catheter-associated urinary tract infection prevention.

As a speaker, Bri shared Elkhart General’s success story, an overview of efforts that have supported a decrease in catheter-associated urinary tract infection, and how changes have reduced the incidence of the infection. In fact, this past March, Elkhart General celebrated a 60-percent reduction in urinary catheter usage across medical units over five months. Great job to Bri and all those  who have contributed to improving the quality of care at Elkhart General.
