Contrary to what some people may think, accountants like to have fun, too. Beacon’s dedicated Finance and Financial Planning departments do an outstanding job of managing expenses and payroll, along with accounting for all assets and capital project costs. And while their interest in numbers brings them to work each day, it’s their enjoyment of each other that makes what they do more than a job.

Over the last 15 years, the two departments have created a synergy and a sense of community among themselves, by having each associate join one of three committees: Community, Fun, and most recently, Education.

Community:

Prepared Easter baskets for the children at Oaklawn (mental health treatment center), purchased Christmas presents for needy families and assembled pack-a-backpack drives for needy children.

Education:

Conducted training sessions on such topics as Excel.

Fun:

Team-building activities that most recently included a Cheeseburger in Paradise lunch at the Innovation Café. In addition to great burgers and tons of food, the lunch featured awards for best attire. Other activities included “Pi Day,” with people bringing in an amazing assortment of pies and the ugliest Christmas sweater competition.

“Being a fellow accountant,” says Jeff Costello, Beacon Chief Financial Officer, “it’s great to see our Finance team knows how to have fun while doing a great job of supporting the financial needs of the health system.”
