Memorial Continues the Climb!

Congratulations to the Venous Thromboembolism Collaborative Group for being given the “Chipping Away” award for its efforts in preventing blood clots in adult patients.

chipping-away-award-2The multidisciplinary group at Memorial Hospital, representing Nursing, Pharmacy, Informatics, Medical Staff, Quality Management and Performance Excellence, has been addressing the challenge of “Global Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis,” otherwise known as the prevention of blood clots in adult patients throughout their hospital stay and 30 days after. The goal has been to be 96 percent or above in preventing blood clots in adult patients, which was accomplished in January, February and March.

The Chipping Away award is given to a group that makes significant improvement in quality and/or service and significantly helps Memorial on its journey to be in the Top 100 Hospitals in the next three years, also known as Project Everest.

The team, which includes Sarah Jackson, Angela Boenne, Jobie Thurin, Lori Keiser, Cheryl Stopper, Joyce Bethke, Ken Elek, M.D., Carey Gaudern, Helen King, Amanda Schmidt, Susie Smith and Cheryl Wibbens, M.D., has worked in conjunction with Voluntary Hospitals of America Central and Johns Hopkins to standardize the care and use best practices. Additionally, educators, Summit Project leadership, Sterile Processing and Delivery and Environmental Services associates all contributed.
