Nearing the Finish Line
The Elkhart General Surgery Expansion Project will be completed in early November and operational starting in January. The nearly $80 million, 165,000-square-foot project will transform the level of care thanks to more dedicated surgical space, greater medical capabilities, new technology and a more patient and visitor-friendly environment.
As of late July, floor, ceiling and wall finishes are being worked on, as well as mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. Work continues on the connecting bridge, the enclosed walkway linking the new surgery floor and Obstetrics Unit with the Emergency Department, says Mark Bralick, Director of Projects & Construction for Beacon Health System.
Group tours of the building have been ongoing for the past few months allowing leadership, staff and volunteers to become more familiar with the floor layouts and the overall progress of the project. Once construction is done, staff will be able to work in the actual space for nearly two months before it’s operational in January.
