Department Spotlight: Mailroom

In a couple, out-of-the-way places in our two hospitals there are powerhouses of processing and sorting that you won’t find anywhere else in the health system. The somewhat hidden Mailrooms at Elkhart General Hospital (basement) and Memorial Hospital (first floor hallway) are a bastion of bustling activity, with associates managing incoming and outgoing mail for dozens of on-site departments and off-site locations.

Whether it’s inter-office mail or U.S. mail, this industrious group of associates work efficiently to ensure mail is getting to where it needs to go in a timely fashion.

Avance Highsmith and Pam Shulmier at Memorial manage the mail for 120 different departments/sites throughout the health system, while Erica Halter, Deb Hajicek and Deloris Ferris oversee the mail for nearly 80 areas at Elkhart General. Oh, and when things slow down for a bit in the Elkhart General Mailroom, you can find the three helping answer phones at the switchboard.
