The Beacon Way—Forming Our Future
Introduced in 2014, The Beacon Way encompasses all the ingredients our growing health system needs to deliver higher quality and outcomes, a better patient experience and better value.
Each of the six components of The Beacon Way enhances our culture and helps us achieve our goals. The Beam checked in with our Beacon Way leadership to learn about progress in each area – look for our series of reports in upcoming issues, too.
Cultivate Human Talent
Steve Eller, Chief Human Resources Officer, reports that aspiring and current leaders will be offered courses in 2016 to hone their skills through the new Beacon Academy. “To assist the organization in meeting future talent needs, the Beacon Academy will help us prepare the right talent, with the right skills, ready at the right time,” Steve explains. As space allows in some sessions, employees from other local businesses may participate by paying tuition for the courses. Plus, plans are in the works for a full day devoted to The Beacon Way during a revamped new associate orientation.
Embrace Performance Improvement
Combining the Performance Improvement knowledge of both hospitals under a single Beacon umbrella, led by Director Jessica Fleck, BSN, will support our goals of improving quality, enhancing the patient experience and increasing efficiency, says Mike O’Neil, Chief Administrative Officer at Beacon.
A Closer Look at Performance Improvement
“Performance Improvement is really all about making things better,” explains Jessica. “We want to make sure that the projects we tackle align with the overall strategy of Beacon Health System. Next, we’re going to work on creating our Beacon Method for Improvement using all the strengths we have across the organization. And finally, we hope to transform the way we provide care for our patients. Performance Improvement isn’t just about making a process better – sometimes it can be about transforming the experience as well.
Performance Improvement isn’t about one person making the change – it’s about everyone having the tools and feeling empowered to make change happen for themselves.”
