Be a Beacon Tip of the Month: Don’t Let Stress Weigh You Down
Did you know that it only takes 200 milliseconds for your brain to determine if a situation is threatening or helpful? If your brain is uncertain, it assumes the situation is threatening, even if it isn’t really.
It happens to all of us, and it happens so quickly, we can’t stop it. You know the feeling: Down in the pit of your stomach, you start to get butterflies and a dry mouth, or your heart starts beating so fast you can’t talk. When these feelings start to happen to you, it’s good to know that you can take control by slowing down and taking slow, deep breaths. And don’t forget to be gentle with yourself. This happens to all of us.
Be kind to yourself and remember to give yourself a moment to catch up when you become aware of your stress response.
