Construction Updates Around Beacon
Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program
Things are close to wrapping up on the 13,500-square-foot addition and renovation. Staff moved into into their new space the week of December 14.
The following areas are currently being renovated: two additional nurses stations, lab and blood draw rooms, nurse triage, call center, check in/out areas, conference room, staff break area and additional offices. An open house and celebration is planned for May 24.
Beacon Health & Fitness
Construction teams are making good progress on the 67,000-square-foot building. Site work and foundations are 80 percent complete and the exterior precast concrete wall panels are being installed, says Mark Bralick, Beacon Director of Projects & Construction. The shell of the building is taking shape quickly with precast panel installations to be finished around the end of March. During March and April, underground plumbing and electrical system rough-ins will be installed, along with the pool.
Construction is anticipated to be done in September 2016.
Memorial Children’s Hospital
Maybe the most talked about construction project in South Bend, the 100,000-square-foot new home for Memorial Children’s Hospital is moving along. Of the 338 tons of rebar needed for the project, 228 tons have been placed. As for concrete, 2,050 cubic yards of concrete out of 4,480 have been poured.
Key milestone dates:
Concrete structure completion: March 31, 2016
Roofing/Skylight installed: April 20, 2016
Exterior masonry completion: May 30, 2016
Tower crane removal: July 5, 2016
Beacon Medical Group Cleveland Road
With the exterior portion of the building complete, crews are busy on the interior with plumbing, framing, drywall, ceiling and painting. Tim McGovern, BMG Executive Director of Primary/Ambulatory Care, says the new facility, relocating from nearby Portage Road, will include family medicine, podiatry, pediatrics, urgent care with a Med-Point, radiology and laboratory services. It is on target to open Aug. 1, 2016.
