Department Spotlight: Couriers
You may only see them for just a few moments each week. Then, as quickly as you see them, they are gone again. But don’t worry — they’ll be back again, just when you need them most.
These ever-efficient transporters are, of course, the couriers of Beacon Health Ventures Professional Services. This hard-working bunch, which includes Roy Olivarez, Mary DeVos, Nancy DeVan, Kim Perkins, Martha Roth and Stephanie Wenger, move packages and supplies from one Beacon facility to another at a pace that is both fast and safe.
And because what they deliver is so critical to health care operations, including X-rays, lab specimens and medical supplies, as well as inter-office mail and food, they are on the road seven days a week, 364 days a year, across five counties, totaling more than 10,000 miles a month.
The couriers spend more time behind the wheel than any other Beacon associates, making more than 100 stops a day between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. as they carefully navigate through road construction, rainstorms and snowstorms.
“They understand the supplies they deliver are needed for Beacon medical staff to provide great care, says Art Presley, Manager of Facilities Services. “Our couriers take great pride in making sure they get everything delivered where it needs to go as quickly and safely as possible.”
