10 Tips for Making the Holidays Healthier

  1. Keep active on and around Thanksgiving. The holidays are not a time to take a break from your exercise routine even when your schedule is out of routine.
  1. Eat 3 meals a day. Skipping meals and overeating later is not good for anyone.
  1. Socialize away from the buffet table, fill your plate and hang out on the other side of the room to prevent grazing.
  1. Find new holiday traditions that do not include food.
  1. Eat the foods that are specific to the holiday; stay away from the foods you can have every day.
  1. Pack your lunch when you go holiday shopping to prevent a fast food trip.
  1. Take a walk after Thanksgiving dinner with the whole family.
  1. Pick your one special holiday treat and enjoy it! But then don’t go overboard with other holiday treats that are available throughout the season.
  1. Remember to drink your water! Keep the high-calorie seasonal drinks to a minimum including pumpkin spice lattes, eggnog, hot cocoa, alcoholic drinks, etc.
