Ash Wednesday plans at Beacon
Wednesday, March 1 is observed by many Christians as the beginning of the observation of a season of focused prayer, fasting and service to God known as Lent.
To begin the Lenten season, there will be a traditional Roman Catholic Mass with the Imposition of Ashes at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Memorial Interfaith Chapel.
An Ecumenical Service of Prayer and Penitence, with the Imposition of Ashes, will be held at noon in the Interfaith Chapel. The service should take 15 to 20 minutes.
There will also be reading material and other resources to aid as you observe Lent this year on the book table in the Interfaith Chapel.
On Good Friday, April 14, there will be a traditional reading aloud of St. John’s Passion of Christ and a prayer at noon. This service also should take 15 to 20 minutes.
Any patient or Memorial Hospital associate who cannot attend services but would like to receive ashes may call 574.647.4323. For more information about Lenten season observations at Memorial, please call Chaplain Coordinator the Rev. Barbara Wilson at 574.647.6990.
The Elkhart General Hospital Chaplains invite associates to join them in the 1st floor Chapel at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday for a brief 15-minute service. Any associate can request the Chaplains for imposition of ashes if desired.
Throughout the Lenten Season, weekly resources will be provided in the Chapel for personal reflection.
A Good Friday Service is planned at Elkhart General Hospital at 12:30 p.m. April 14. This service should also last no more than 15 minutes.
