Focusing on Patient Safety
At Beacon, patient safety is a top priority. In recognition of Patient Safety Awareness Week, associates at Elkhart General and Memorial Hospital have planned some special activities.
Elkhart General is rolling out the Hospital Improvement Innovation Network’s UP Campaign –“Wake UP, Get UP, Soap UP!” (Check out this great picture of Carl Risk and Dawn Wilkins as Carl Fredricksen and Russell from the movie Up.)
This patient safety program is meant to get patients Up to walk, wake them Up (don’t let them get too sedated) and wash Up – for hand hygiene. Webinars, a Leaders’ Walk, seminars, gait belt training, hand hygiene demonstrations and special drawings will also take place.
The Memorial Nursing Quality & Safety Council developed the patient safety awareness program this year for Memorial.
In addition to sending out daily emails and social media posts, special drawings and seminars, the team will focus on the use of gait belts. You can also keep an eye out for this guy ‘Where’s the Leprechaun’ – he’ll be hiding around Memorial Hospital all week.
We know that it’s everyone’s job to help keep patients safe, but a special thank you to the following associates for all your great work to spread the word about patient safety.
