Suicide prevention training offered

Beacon associates are invited to participate in a free two-hour suicide prevention program to receive training and certification as a QPR Gatekeeper.

QPR Gatekeeper Training is a suicide prevention program. Similar to CPR in a cardiac emergency, QPR is designed to teach lay people how to respond in a suicide ideation emergency until more qualified help can take over. Course objectives include recognizing someone at risk of suicide, demonstrating increased knowledge of intervention skills, and describing knowledge of referral resources and how to refer someone for help. More information about the course can be found at www.qprinstitute.com.

Beacon Community Health is providing the two-hour course free of charge as an investment in addressing our community’s mental health needs for youth and adults. If the course content does not sound like something that aligns with your professional responsibilities but you have an interest in the material, you are encouraged to participate. QPR is designed as a lay person training with helpful information for anyone and everyone.

Participants will receive an information booklet and certificate, as well as information on additional community resources.

This program will be offered Wednesday, May 24, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. and Thursday, May 25, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the CHE NIPSCO 3rd floor conference room at 307 N. Michigan St. Attendees only need to attend one session to receive all of the content and certification.

There is room for up to 16 participants for each session. Reserve your spot by emailing Aubrey Stevens at astevens2@beaconhealthsystem.org.

This training was made possible through the generosity of the Estate of Norma Frank.
