Beacon Bits, the latest news you need to know
Let’s get you up to speed on the VERY latest news from across our health system.
First and foremost, we want you to know that time is running out on completing your Virtual Wellness Screening.
The last day for associates and spouses covered on the Beacon medical plan to complete their screenings is Aug. 31.
You MUST schedule your appointment NOW otherwise you risk not having an appointment available to you, says Dawn Gillespie, Human Resources communications and wellness programs coordinator. If you are having difficulty logging into your account, please contact Circle Wellness as soon as possible for assistance at 866-682-3020, extension 204.
If you are on the Beacon medical plan and do not complete this requirement, you will NOT be eligible for medical coverage for the 2018 plan year. Contact Human Resources at 574-647-6509 with questions.
Now to tell you about an award winner.
Dr. Ken Elek was selected to receive the 2017 Lester D. Bibler Award from the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians.
“Dr. Elek is a known leader, educator, model and public servant to his colleagues and residents. His commitment to and passion for family medicine is evident in all areas of his life and his accomplishments mirror his outstanding dedication. Dr. Elek has long been a leader in family medicine, having been an educator for much of his career and serving on the IAFP Board of Directors for 23 years. We are most thankful for the 14 years that he served as Speaker of the Congress, overseeing not one but two rounds of governing restructuring. This is truly the leadership and dedication that is required to move an organization such as the Academy forward.”
Dr. Rob Riley, associate director of Memorial Family Medicine Residency wrote, “While contributing significantly to the work of our Academy, he also has served as a role model for our residents regarding the importance of commitment to the work of our Academy, several of whom have followed his example and actively participated at the local, state and even national levels.”
Congratulations, Dr. Elek!
Our United Way campaign is scheduled from Sept. 11 to Sept. 22. Last year, Beacon Health System associates raised more than $292,275 that helped support a network of vital local programs.
A United Way representative can visit your department about the current landscape of our community and offer the opportunity for our teams to invest in their work. Meetings may be scheduled at any time between now and the campaign end date, says Maria Behr, Elkhart General Hospital’s director of pharmacy and our 2017 Beacon United Way campaign chairperson.
“Our friends at United Way are happy to meet with groups of any size at any time, including overnight shifts,” Behr says. “I ask that you consider inviting them to speak with your associates at the beginning of your next department or unit meeting. During these meetings, Beacon associates will have the opportunity to ask any questions specific to United Way’s business practices and gain instructions specific to the pledging process.”
To schedule a United Way representative, please call or email Matt at 574-295-1650 or email him at mpuro@unitedwayec.org.
