Shelby Morse promoted to new Beacon role
A tireless advocate for patient safety and quality, Shelby Morse, RN, MSN, Executive Director of Quality and Case Management at Elkhart General Hospital, was recently promoted to a new, system-level position as Beacon Director of Utilization and Case Management.
Shelby’s responsibilities have grown and now include utilization review, case management, discharge planning and social services for both Elkhart General and Memorial Hospital. She will also continue her work at EGH related to patient safety and regulatory/accreditation topics, including the hospital’s upcoming transition from The Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP) to The Joint Commission.
When asked about what she’s most looking forward to in her new role, Shelby’s response is characteristically people-centric: “I hope to develop relationships with all the associates who do this critical work and have a powerful impact on our patients’ outcomes and the hospitals’ success.”
Shelby reports to Jeff Costello, Chief Financial Officer at Beacon. He explains that Shelby’s new role will have a vital impact on Beacon:
- Over the last few years, the health insurance industry has become increasingly complex for health systems to navigate.
- Shelby’s work will help Beacon Health System provide documentation to help us get paid appropriately from insurers for the important work we do for our inpatients.
- Also, as Beacon continually moves toward a system approach in all service lines, Shelby will lead the way in creating a new, cohesive standard for the utilization review and case management functions at both hospitals.
Jeff describes Shelby as an innovator in her field and someone who is well-respected among her peers. “I’m excited to have her take on this important responsibility at Beacon!” he adds.
