Beacon Bits, Sept. 7 edition

When you love where you work, it shows in everything you do.

Here at Beacon, we understand how true this is. And we’re dedicated to creating a work environment that is engaging for each and every associate.

The best way for us to create an amazing place to work is by measuring our progress and making changes based on your feedback. The Associate Survey is the most useful tool YOU can use to help us.

As part of our shared responsibility for creating a Happy, Healthy, Awesome place to work, we ask you to take this survey. It will be in your hands — well, on your computer screens, very soon.

The Beacon Associate Survey begins Sept. 18 and closes Oct. 2.

Participation won’t be extended, so don’t wait.

Complete the survey as soon as you are able.

Watch for the email from Advisory Board Survey Solutions with a link to the survey, along with an auto-generated password to use when completing it on your computer, tablet or smart phone.

Rest assured, the survey is completely confidential. Beacon has no way to track individual responses. It should take less than 15 minutes to complete and is crucial in helping us make Beacon the best it can be.

Upon completion of the survey, you’ll automatically be entered into a drawing for some exciting prizes! The Advisory Board will randomly select associates who have completed the survey and provide the names to Beacon.

The sooner you complete the survey, the greater your chance of taking home one of the following: an iPad, iPad Mini, iWatch, Fitbit, PTO day or $100 VISA gift card. Very cool.

The first drawing will include only associates who participate in the first three days the survey is open. Additional drawings will be held at the end of week one and at the close of the survey.

Is your department working on a basket for Beacon’s United Way Basket Auction?

If not, you still have time.

Decide as a group-department-team on the theme, select a colleague to be the organizer, and then decide whether each associate or team member brings in items relative to the theme or if each associate donates a specific dollar amount. If you choose the latter, the organizer would go out and purchase the items for the basket.

The basket deadline is noon, Sept. 11. Auction dates are Sept. 18 to 28.

A news item from Elkhart…

New hours went into effect Sept. 1 at the Elkhart General Outpatient Pharmacy.

The pharmacy is now open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, said Maria Behr, Elkhart General’s director of pharmacy.

And the first TransAortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) surgeries were recently completed at Memorial Hospital.

TAVR is fast becoming the gold standard for consideration in valve replacement situations. The patient population that this procedure is available to, continues to expand. It is projected that TAVR procedures will grow between 200 and 300 percent in the next decade, due to a multitude of factors including the continued aging population and steady improvement in the technology and interventional approach, said Kreg Gruber, Beacon’s chief operating officer.

Elkhart General has seen great  TAVR success and outcomes. Under the leadership of Dr. Troy Weirick and Dr. Walt Halloran, the Elkhart program continues to offer life saving and life changing intervention to our communities.

At Memorial, Dr. Shakil Aslam and Dr. Jay Patel are heading up the TAVR Program and will work closely with those who have the expertise with the program at Elkhart General. Beacon is fortunate to have strong programs that can support one another, Gruber said, in the ever evolving diagnostic and therapeutic delivery of services.
