Kreg Gruber: Transformative thinker and trusted colleague
Appointed CEO by Beacon Health System’s Board of Directors, Kreg R. Gruber will become Chief Executive Officer on Nov. 1, 2017. Beacon Health System is the largest locally owned and operated nonprofit health care system in north central Indiana. Beacon is the parent organization of Memorial Hospital of South Bend, Elkhart General Hospital in Elkhart and the 350-provider Beacon Medical Group.
Gruber joined Memorial Hospital in 2006 as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. During the last 11 years, he has served as President of Memorial Hospital, President of Elkhart General Hospital and President of Beacon Medical Group.
Gruber has played an instrumental role in Beacon joining the Mayo Clinic Care Network; constructing of the $50 million Beacon Children’s Hospital; implementing the only designated Level II Trauma Center in the region, opening Beacon Health & Fitness in Granger, and in the creation of Beacon Health System.
Prior to moving to South Bend, Gruber served as President of Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He also held the positions of Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Amerigard Health Services Garden City Hospital in Garden City, Mich. Gruber also held the position of Assistant Vice President of Medical Care Evaluation at Saint Anthony Hospital in Michigan City, Ind.
Gruber serves on the Board and is Chair-Elect of the Indiana Hospital Association. He is a member of the American Hospital Association’s Metropolitan Hospitals Governing Council and is an American College of Healthcare Executives Mentor. He also serves on the Board of both the YWCA of St. Joseph and Elkhart County and the South Bend Regional Chamber of Commerce and is a mentor at Madison Elementary School. Gruber is married and has three adult children.
He grew up in Greenville, Ohio, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Allied Medicine from The Ohio State University and a Master of Health Administration degree from Indiana University, Indianapolis. Gruber completed the Integral Executive Management Program at the University of Notre Dame and is an American College of Healthcare Executives fellow.
