Associates who work in Community Health Enhancement got all “crafty” at their recent Fall Festival.
About 40 Beacon associates who attended the recent CHE festival took part in a competition to benefit the Monroe Circle Community Center. The center serves vulnerable senior citizens in downtown South Bend.
“We provided some supplies — turkey and fall leaf cutouts, material, ribbon and yarn — and each group made a centerpiece that will be used at the Monroe Center’s holiday meal,” said Patty Willaert, Community Health executive director. Associates posed for pictures with their centerpieces following the competition.
Want to know more about our extraordinary CHE team?
“Our associates do everything from helping those with language barriers access care, to helping struggling families prepare for and take care of newborns,” Willaert said. “We are out in the community every day, teaching children how to be better digital citizens, helping aging adults live fuller lives, and guiding community members on a navigation of the health care system.”
In fact, Beacon Community Health is the first line of defense for many local residents.
“We seek to address priority issues from a preventative standpoint, saving the both our clients and the health system a lot of time and money,” she said. “We keep a steady finger on the pulse of the communities we serve, and we regularly evaluate and update what health needs must become priorities for our department and for the hospital.”
The CHE team doesn’t work alone, either.
Beacon Community Health partners with other community organizations to ensure the success of programs aimed at addressing priority health needs in the region.
Community Health is about collaboration, communication, and outreach.
“We are a backbone in the community. We do everything we can to assist those who face some of the worst conditions that our society has to offer,” Willaert said. “Best of all, we collect the data on the outcomes of our programs and report what we’ve seen, done, and learned every year.
“We aren’t just creating change, we’re documenting what works, what doesn’t work, and how we can improve.”
Thanks to the Beacon Community Health associates who participated in the Fall Festival contest benefiting the Monroe Center, and to everyone who works on the CHE team. We appreciate you!
