Kaizen Team Addresses Workplace Violence
In early August, 2017, a fantastic group of Beacon associates came together to address the escalating problem of workplace violence. Our rockstar team was comprised of nurses, therapists, aides, security personnel and leaders from both Beacon hospitals who came together for a common cause.
Improvements include: de-escalation training for all associates in clinical roles, a simple assessment for potential for violence to be completed on all adult inpatients, communication methods for risk of violent behaviors to all caregivers, standardized security responses and streamlined reporting systems, all supported by a Beacon policy on preventing workplace violence.
Insights from the team include: “We all need to be consistent and keep the guardrails up, to keep patients and associates safe,” and profoundly, “This program would have prevented my injury.”
Way to go team!
