Bishop Rhoades officiates Mass at Memorial
Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades, bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, presided over a Mass on Tuesday at the Memorial Hospital Interfaith Chapel in South Bend. Following Mass, he attended a reception in his honor, talked with associates, and visited patient care areas at Memorial Hospital to pray for and bless our patients.
“We take for granted the sacrifices that are made by our nurses and physicians at all hours of the day and night, so I’m grateful for the commitment they have to the dignity of the human person,” Bishop Rhoades told WNDU-TV in its coverage of his hospital visit.

“It meant a great deal for Bishop Rhoades to visit,” said Barbara Wilson, MDiv, MA, Spiritual Care Services coordinator at Memorial Hospital. Joachim Oforchukwu, C.S.Sp., Catholic Chaplain, assisted the Bishop during the Mass.
“I thought he would probably be too busy with diocesan responsibilities, but he immediately accepted our invitation,” Wilson said. “From the time I first reached out to the Bishop — about four years ago — for help in finding a Roman Catholic priest to serve as RC chaplain at Memorial, I’ve learned that I can count on his interested concern and support for our patients and staff.”
