Elkhart oncology honored for compassion
For making a dying man’s final wish come true, the Elkhart General Oncology unit, along with Dean Heisey, Spiritual Care Services, received the Beacon “compassion” value award.

“Having a daughter myself, I could relate with the patient’s wish of being able to walk his daughter down the aisle,” said Elkhart General President Carl Risk.
“I am so proud of our Medical/Oncology team for taking a ‘Can Do’ approach and making his wish, and his daughter’s wish, come true,” Risk continued. “Hearing this amazing story helped remind me of why I was called into health care and that was to help people.”
