BINGO wouldn’t be the same without Mike

Mike Williams once heard someone say that there is no way one individual can make a big difference.

He knows — firsthand — that statement is false.

“I volunteer because I can make a difference in the lives of young patients and their families,” says Mike, who has spent years volunteering at Beacon Children’s Hospital.

He shares a personal story to explain the reason he volunteers.

“I can still remember to this day when I would take my dad for his cancer treatments 40 years ago,” Mike says. “I remember watching him in the waiting room, and he would get down on the floor and play with kids who were there for their treatments, too.”

Mike believes this — ‘We make a living by what we get, but we make a lifetime by what we give.’

His name is synonymous with the BINGO games he leads for children, whether they are spending time in the play areas, or playing along from the comfort of their beds.

“I keep the cards, notes and kind words that I receive from the kids and their parents that I spend my volunteer time with,” Mike says.

He shares a card that means a lot to him…

“Thank you for helping me feel better when I am sick.
I love doing crafts with you.
You have made my visits fun and made me forget about cancer.
Love you always.”
