Nurse gives back as Elkhart volunteer
Betty Borlik is no stranger to Elkhart General Hospital.
That’s where she started working in 1975.
“So when I retired, it just made sense to volunteer as a way of giving back and training others to volunteer on the nursing units,” Betty says.
Volunteer work, she has found, fulfills her much like her career once did.
“It is so rewarding to run into those who you have had an impact on and helped them in some way, whether it advanced their career or helped them find their destination,” Betty says.
Her husband, Ed, has volunteered at Elkhart General with Betty for more than 15 years.
“There is never a dull moment in transportation,” Ed says. “The camaraderie, friendship and teamwork of our Wednesday morning transportation group of volunteers has always been special to me. We all work together to make sure our patients, visitors and staff get to their destination with a smile and make a difference in their day.”
