BMG athletic trainer named to Forty Under 40
Kara Werner-Sanders, Beacon Medical Group Sports Medicine, has been named to Michiana’s Forty Under 40 class of 2018. Kara is head athletic trainer and an adjunct instructor at Indiana University South Bend.
The South Bend Regional Chamber of Commerce recognized Kara and the other honorees at a recent luncheon. Forty Under 40 launched in 2007 as a way to honor the accomplishments of young regional leaders. Recipients are selected based on the following criteria: initiative and dedication in pursuing their career; proven success and achievement in their job or career; passion for their community, and giving back because of that passion.
Kara was born in Naperville/Downers Grove, Ill. and currently resides in Mishawaka. She received her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Carroll College, and her Master of Arts in counseling from Lakeland College. She is a certified athletic trainer in Indiana and Michigan and a certified strength and conditioning coach.
In a special section that appeared in Sunday’s paper, the South Bend Tribune asked each member of the 2018 class to respond to these questions:
Best professional accomplishment? Working with my colleagues to obtain the NATA safe sport school award for South Bend Community School Corp. LaVille and Edwardsburg high schools.
What’s inspiring you now? My family is my main inspiration. They inspire me on a daily basis, help me grow and challenge me to be a better person.
Most people don’t know … I take dance lessons with my wife.
Favorite hidden gem in Michiana? The walking paths behind my house.
I’m currently reading … “In the Company of Educated Women: A History of Women and Higher Education in America,” by Barbara Miller Solomon.
Problem I’m trying to solve? Finding a work-life balance.
“I have the privilege to work for Beacon Medical Group Sports Medicine and IU South Bend and they are great establishments and I would not be where I am today without the guidance, and encouragement to continue to grow not only as a professional but also as a person, of my mentors and leaders at both places — Steve Bruce, Kerri Hessey, and Dr. Linda Mansfield,” Kara said.
“It is an honor to be selected, as the group of people I found myself selected with are inspirational. I can only hope to affect people and the community the way many of them have.”
