Winter weather expected into Monday morning
The National Weather Service tonight has issued a Winter Weather Advisory. Rain will spread into the region tonight and become snow across northwest Indiana and southwest Michigan after midnight.
Snow will continue into Monday morning. Between two and five inches of snow accumulation is expected.
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads, slippery conditions, and limited visibilities that may affect the morning commute.
Here are some tips from Beacon Health System Emergency Preparedness Manager Chris Heck to help you stay safe. Our number one goal is the safety and well-being of our associates.
TAKE YOUR TIME
When you’re heading out, allow plenty of time, extra time, even, to travel to and from work in snow or other inclement weather. Being in a hurry can lead to bad outcomes on the road. We want everyone to arrive safely at work and to return home to your family safely, too.
SECURITY CAN HELP
If you encounter a dead battery, security can help! Just call 574-523-3289 at Elkhart General Hospital and 574-647-3245 at Memorial Hospital for security to help jumpstart your vehicle on those hospital campuses.
USE CAUTION
Be aware of the conditions of the roadways, parking lots, sidewalks and building entrances. Wear appropriate footwear and exercise extra caution when crossing streets as crosswalks may be slippery and vehicles may not be able to quickly stop.
*** NOTE TO MANAGERS AND DIRECTORS
If your department will be OPENING LATE or CLOSING for any reason, including bad weather, please inform scheduled patients and any staff scheduled to work.
Then, let the Marketing/Communications team know about the closing by emailing the information to Marketing@BeaconHealthSystem.org so we can alert the media about the closing when it’s appropriate. We’ll also contact our operators who take calls from the public.
