Mayo Clinic Care Network eConsults improve care for Beacon patients

As part of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, Beacon Health System providers are able to consult with Mayo Clinic specialists through eConsults — electronic consultations that provides a second opinion at no additional charge to the patient.

Dr. Thomas Reid recently requested an eConsult when a patient came to his office with neck pain. She thought the pain was from sitting at a computer all day.

Dr. Reid knew the patient had a history of metastatic breast cancer and ordered an MRI of her spine. The test showed a life threatening tumor in her neck.

After a consultation with a Mayo Clinic specialist, the patient was flown to Mayo Clinic where surgery was performed to save her life.
