Charlie’s story: Brain tumor surgery doesn’t keep four-year-old down

Charlie loves babies and talks about being a baby doctor. When she was just three years old, she began having headaches. About a year later, she had a CT scan, which revealed a huge tumor on the brain stem. Just two days after the scan, Pediatric Neurosurgeon Daniel Fulkerson, did a 12-hour surgery. After that came three rounds of chemotherapy, followed by a second surgery and finally 33 rounds of radiation. Charlie has been through physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. Her mom says that Charlie isn’t bothered at all by everything she has endured. Being able to have Charlie’s care through Beacon Children’s Hospital and being able to stay with her the whole time made the experience easier on the family.
