Wade’s story: There’s nothing he can’t do

Wade’s story: There’s nothing he can’t do

Everything was normal when Wade was born, but the night before he was to go home, he had a seizure. At two weeks old, he was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, which causes a buildup of excess spinal fluid in the brain and he was experiencing bleeding on both sides of his brain. At 15 days old, he had his first surgery performed by Pediatric Neurosurgeon Daniel Fulkerson at St. Vincent’s Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. He spent two weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. When Wade was two years old, Dr. Fulkerson joined Beacon Medical Group. Wade’s mom said having their medical team close to home took a huge weight off the family. When Wade needed a second surgery, he was able to have it done right in South Bend. Today, after having the odds against him, five-year-old Wade is thriving.
