Types of strokes treated at Beacon

There is more than just one type of stroke:

  • An ischemic stroke occurs when blood supply is blocked or reduced to a part of the brain.
  • A hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain leaks or bursts.
  • There is also transient ischemic attack (TIA). This is a temporary incident of symptoms similar to a stroke, but TIA does not cause permanent damage.
