A noncancerous tumor that grows in glandular tissue.
An adenoma is a tumor that grows in a gland or develops from the glandular tissue that lines certain organs in the body. An adenoma is not cancer. Adenomas can grow in the breasts, colon and lungs, and in the pancreas, prostate and other glands.
The symptoms of an adenoma vary depending on its location and size.
Since they're not cancer, adenomas generally cause little harm. They may be left alone or can be surgically removed. Some adenomas return after being removed.
